The death of Kaoru creates an empty void in Shinji. Kaoru was the first who could understand what Shinji was feeling and his death made Shinji tumble into a pit of emptyness, but a new child comes and catches Shinji's interest. Soft and sweet on the inside but mysterious aura surrounds her.

Shinji and Misato arrive at their apartment. Misato opens the door and reaches out for the light switch. The lights flicker on and off for a second and finally stay on and Misato immediately heads for the fridge. She pulls out a bottle of water and Shinji is amazed.

Shinji: (Surprised) This is the first time I’ve ever seen her drink something other than beer.

Misato twists off the cap and takes a sip. She then sees Shinji who has a surprised look on his face.

Misato: ehh what’s wrong?

Shinji: (nervously and surprised) uh…. it’s just that you are drinking something else than your regular can of beer... that’s all.

(Misato heaves a sigh)

Misato: Yeah I know it’s just that I’m really tired and not in the mood for a beer right now. It's not like I’m going to stop drinking beer you know.

Misato: (Smiling) It's good to change your habits once in a while

Shinji: (Starts blushing) Oh

(There is a brief moment of pause between the two before Misato decides to say something)

Misato: Listen, I say we both just go to bed. We can both visit Asuka at the hospital tomorrow if that will make you feel better.

Shinji: Yeah... I guess so.

Misato and Shinji both leave and go to their rooms to change. Shinji takes off his pants and takes off his shirt and puts on a tee shirt and for a moment stares at the moon in the cloudless sky. He pauses and looks at it for a few seconds before reaching for his tape player.

(Misato is standing at the door.)

Misato: Good Night!

Shinji: (In a low voice) Good Night.

Misato then leaves and heads over to her room to sleep. Shinji then sits on his bed and lies down. He just gazes up at the ceiling for a few moments then he mutters something.

Shinji:(in a low voice) why did Kaoru have to die?

(Shinji stares with empty eyes at the ceiling from his bed)

{Flashback of Kaoru and Shinji in the shower at NERV}

Kaoru: You are extremely afraid of any initial contact aren’t you?

(Shinji says nothing.)

Kaoru: Are you THAT afraid of other people?

Kaoru: I know that keeping others at a distance you avoid a betray of your trust, but by you may not be hurt that way, you mustn't forget that you must endure the loneliness...

Kaoru: Man can never completely forget the loneliness because all men are fundamentally alone.

(Shinji begins to fill with sorrow and begins to cry.... just by remembering what Kaoru said.)

Shinji: What Kaoru said was true... "Man can never completely forget the loneliness because all men are fundamentally alone."

Shinji: Just like and my father.... So many years ago, I was alone... My father didn't want anything to do with me. And all of a sudden he calls for me. Asuka isn't here. I would feel weird talking to Rei and Misato is the only one I can really trust right now.

Shinji: Without Misato right now.... I truly am alone.

(Shinji presses the play button and music begins to play)

{Another flashback of Kaoru and Shinji in Terminal Dogma}

Kaoru: It is my destiny to live forever, though my survival will bring destruction to the human race.

Kaoru: However it is possible for me to be killed and weather I live or die makes no great difference, in truth however death my be the absolute freedom there is

Shinji: What are you??

Shinji: Kaoru I don't understand what you are talking about Kaoru.

Kaoru: This is my wish...

Kaoru: Please destroy me otherwise you will be destroyed.

Kaoru: Only one life form can be chosen to evade the destruction and seize the future... And you are not the existence, which should die.

Kaoru: You need the future... it's what you live for.

Kaoru: Thank you Shinji.... my life is meaningful because of you.

Shinji and EVA 01 stare eye to eye with Kaoru then a moment later... EVA 01crushes Kaoru and Kaoru's head falls into the sea of LCL below with a splash.

Misato: Am I doing the right thing?

Misato: Shinji has been through rough times before but this is the worst I’ve ever seen him in. He won't talk about it with anyone... Not even me.

{Flash back of Misato listening to Kaji's last phone call}

Kaji: Katsuragi... It's me. I’m sure you're listening to this message. Especially after I caused you so much trouble.... Sorry.

Kaji: Please tell Ritsu that I’m sorry too.

Kaji: And there is one more thing to trouble you with.

Kaji: I've been growing... flowers; I'd appreciate it if you could water them for me. Shinji knows where they are.

(A tear grows in Misato's eye remembering what Kaji said)

Kaji: Katsuragi...

Kaji: The truth is with you.

Kaji: Don't hesitate, move ahead

Kaji: If I could see you again, I will say the words I could not say 8 years ago.

Kaji: Bye...

Misato wipes the tear away with her hand and stares at the ceiling for a moment. She then turns her head over to check her clock. It's 11 PM

Misato: It's getting late. I should get to sleep.

Misato looks at a picture of herself and Kaji. Misato then closes her eyes and another tear is seen rolling down her cheek.

Misato: Kaji...

Meanwhile Back at NERV headquarters. Maya Ibuki is in Gendo's office with Fuyutski, A cold and dark office thats scares almsot every NERV employee.

Gendo: What is the current status of Unit 01 and 02? (With his hands locked together and his chin resting on his fingers)

Maya: Well, Unit 01 has suffered some damage to the chest plate because unit 02's progressive knife. The cut is pretty deep so it could take a while to regenerate, but it should be fully operational in a few days.

Fuyutski: And unit 02?

Maya: As for unit 02, damage is in the upper neck area and head. Shinji's progressive knife cut pretty deep in the neck, but the damage to the head isn't too severe.

Gendo: Thanks for your report lieutenant Ibuki… you are dismissed. You may have an hour off duty now.

(Maya nods and leaves quickly and when she exits Gendo's office, outside she heaves a sigh of relief)

Maya: Well that wasn't too hard.

(Hyuga is waiting outside of the door and approaches Maya quickly)

Makoto: Well? How did it go?

(Maya looks at him relieved)

Maya: I thought it would be harder that this but at least that's over with.

Maya: Hey, where's Shigeru? I was going to ask him if he wanted to come with us for some coffee now that us 3 have an hour off duty.

Hyuga: He's on his way; he was just finishing up a few things.

(Maya and Hyuga both start walking down the hallway and Hyuga presses the elevator button.)

Maya: I sure hope Shinji is doing well. He looked pretty bad after defeating the 17th angel.

Hyuga: Yeah I saw that too, he didn't seem happy at all.

Maya: Well our job was to defeat the angels and right now we accomplished our goal.

Hyuga: Yeah it sure is great... but what's going to happen to us now?

(Elevator doors open and Hyuga and Maya both step in and press a button.... After a few seconds they see Shigeru running as fast as he can down the hallway.)

Shigeru: (yelling) Hey guys! STOP! WAIT!

(Hyuga starts snickering and turns to Maya)

Hyuga: Hey Maya, watch this.

(Hyuga presses the close door option)

Maya:(cheering with a grin) Go Aoba go!

Hyuga:(laughing) Hurry up Aoba!

(Shigeru is running as fast as he can down the hallway and is breathing rather hard)

Shigeru: (yelling) C’mon guys, this isn't funny.

(The elevator doors closes and Maya and Makoto are both laughing inside the elevator)

Maya: (laughing) You should have seen his face.

Hyuga: (with a big grin on his face) Well that moment was priceless.

Shigeru stops with sweat rolling down his forehead, He looks over at the 2nd elevator and a sign that says "Out of Order" is hanging from the elevator door.

Shigeru: (with a look of fear on his face) Oh no..... Not the stairs again...

(Shigeru sighs and opens the door and begins running down the stairs)

Meanwhile several floors down, door the elevators open and Hyuga and Maya step out with a smile on each their faces, they both walk over to the vending machines and they both go to separate machines.

(Maya goes toward the first machine and looks at the flavors for coffee)

Maya: (Thinking) Hmm I tried that yesterday...

(Maya looks up and down the list twice)

Maya: (while pressing a button) I think Ill try French vanilla today.

Hyuga approaches Maya and waits beside her taking a sip from his coffee.

Hyuga: Well what did you take today?

Maya: (smiling) French Vanilla

Hyuga: I took the regular...

Maya: (in an irritated voice) That’s nothing new, you always take regular.... you never try anything new.

(Hyuga stops drinking and stares at Maya)

Hyuga: (surprised) Hey! Wait a minute... (Submissively) oh what the hell. I just like one flavor of coffee, nothing wrong with that.

Maya: (crossing her arms with a look of disappointment on her face) See!

Hyuga: (shrugs) I don't know what to tell ya.

Maya:(after taking a sip of coffee) mmm!! That’s good! (Smiling)

(Hyuga and Maya head over to the bench and table and sit down opposite each other)

Maya: (with a puzzled look) Say, where's Aoba?

Hyuga: That slowpoke is sure taking his time getting here....

(A door opens beside the elevators and Shigeru just stands there exhausted with beads of sweat rolling down his forehead)

Maya and Hyuga turn their heads to face the door and see a very fatigued Shigeru

Shigeru: (breathing heavily) You.... Guys.... I haven’t.... ran that hard... since I was.... in high school.

(Shigeru collapses on the floor with a loud thud)

Maya and Makoto both look at each other and start laughing and take a sip from their coffee. Maya and Makoto then both turn to face Shigeru who's sitting on the floor all tired and weary with smiles on their faces.

Maya:(with a big smile) so what took you so long to get here slowpoke?

Maya and Makoto face each other again and laugh. Both take a sip of coffee then face each other smiling as a weary Shigeru Aoba makes his way slowly to the vending machines.

Shigeru: (blinking repeatedly) I think I’ll take something cold to drink for a change.

Morning has come and the sun is shining brightly outside. The birds are chirping and at last there is some movement in Misato's apartment.

Misato: (Yawn) I think all I needed was some rest.

(Misato looks outside)

Misato: I never thought I'd get up this early, but it was worth it.

Misato stares at the sunrise for a few seconds and then proceeds to get dressed and hums a tune {Ode to Joy} while getting dressed. She then opens the door to see that Shinji isn't awake yet and is surprised.

Misato: (surprised) I got up before Shinji did? I might as well go wake him.

Misato makes her way to Shinji's bedroom and is about to slide the door open but instead stops a few inches from the door.

Misato: I guess I should let Shinji sleep in today, he's had a rough time lately with the Kaoru incident and all.

(Misato opens the door a bit to see Shinji sleeping peacefully on his bed)

Misato: (smiling) He actually looks peaceful when he sleeps.... poor kid.

Misato slowly closes the door to not make a sound and goes to the kitchen. She heads towards the fridge and opens the door. She reaches for a can of beer.

{Flash back}

Misato while holding a can of beer

Misato: That’s the way to start your morning

Shinji: (upset) Uh, what wrong with coffee?

Misato then stops and pulls her hand back.

Misato: Well since I'm changing my habits.... I guess having coffee this morning

wouldn’t hurt.

A few minutes pass and Misato is having breakfast and she hears a door open and footsteps slowly making their way towards the kitchen.

Misato: (nervously) Uh did I wake you Shinji?

Shinji: No you didn't.

Misato: uh ok.

Shinji realizes that this is the first time in a long while that Misato is actually up before himself. He sits down at the table.

Misato: (smiling) Would you like it if I made you breakfast Shinji?

Shinji (with a faint smile) Yeah, I’m not really hungry right now, but I’d like some toast and eggs and some tea.

Misato stops eating and starts preparing breakfast. After several minutes, Misato approaches Shinji and sets a plate and cup in front of him. Shinji as always is a little uneasy when Misato cooks something because he's had a few situations before where he felt sick after eating something Misato made him. Shinji nervously starts to eat his eggs and finds them good for a change. Shinji smiles and looks at Misato.

Shinji: You know Misato

Shinji: (smiling) This is very good!

Misato is somewhat surprised that Shinji complemented something she cooked. She is stunned for a few seconds and looks at Shinji with a look of happiness on her face. She is happy that Shinji actually liked it.

Misato: (blushing) Well... thank you Shinji.

Shinji finishes his eggs and starts to eat his toast and Misato feels a sense of joy in her heart

Misato: Well I had to try hard, Shinji looked kind of down this morning, at least he's happy right now.

Misato looks over at Shinji who is eating is toast

Misato: Shinji... so how are you feeling this morning?

Shinji finishes his toast and looks over at Misato

Shinji: Well.... I’m ok.

Misato: (smiles) I’m glad to hear that.

Misato finishes her breakfast and looks over at Shinji who is drinking his tea. She then gets up and puts her plates in the sink and starts to head for her room but stops just before exiting the kitchen.

Misato: Shinji...

Shinji: Yeah?

Misato: We are going to see Asuka soon, so get ready.

Shinji: Ok, I will.

Shinji finishes his tea and brings his plate and cup over to the sink and then makes his way out of the kitchen and over to his room. He pauses just outside his door and a feeling of concern goes through him.

Shinji:(thinking) I hope Asuka is doing better today.

Shinji then gets dressed and a few minutes later he hears Misato's voice calling for him.

Misato: Shinji?

Misato: are you ready yet?

Shinji: Not yet, go on, I'll meet you outside in just a sec.

Misato nods her head.

Misato: Ok, but hurry up.

Misato exits her apartment and closes the door; she goes down the hallway and presses the elevator button. And the doors open. She steps inside and as the door closes she has a feeling of concern.

Misato: I hope I'm doing the right thing, Shinji had to deal with yesterday, and now he has to face Asuka who is in an even worse position than him.

Misato stops for a brief moment and wonders.

Misato: It’s just been so hard lately.

Misato: I’m just hoping in doing the right thing.

The elevator doors open and she makes her way to her car and unlocks the doors. She opens her door and sits down in the car staring at the mirror looking at herself... wondering. After a few minutes, Shinji opens the door and sits down inside and closes his door. Misato pauses for a second and has trouble to say what on her mind.

Misato: (nervously) Shinji:

Shinji: Yeah

Misato: I know it's been hard for you.

Misato: This is just to tell you that.... That

She pauses for a moment and is really nervous about the words that are about to follow. She has never said these words to anybody in her life and now is the time she’s chooses to say it.

Misato: That if you.... ever need anybody... to talk to...I'll always be there for you.

Shinji turns to face Misato. They both stare at each other for a few seconds and Shinji finally speaks.

Shinji: Ok.... I will.

Shinji then smiles at Misato and then looks out the window watching a mother pushing her child past the car in a stroller. Misato is happy that she could get what she had to say off her chest and she starts the car and drive off towards NERV

Misato drives through the remains of Tokyo and ends up right in front of NERV headquarters entrance door

Misato: (smiling at Shinji) Well, here we are.

They enter the car elevator shaft and they begin their decent to the Geofront.

Shinji feels something deep within the pit of his stomach.... He has to say something important to Misato.

(Shinji opens his mouth as if he is going to say something.... but something holds him back. Something is blocking him on what he was about to say.)

Shinji turns around just stares out the window again watching as the lights go past.

Deep inside NERV headquarters in Gendo's office...

Gendo: When is the arrival of the 6th child expected?

Fuyutski is reading a book and stops reading.

Fuyutski: She is expected to arrive later today

Gendo: Have all things been arranged for her arrival?

Fuyutski: Yes, we have everything prepared.

Gendo: Good...

Misato and Shinji enter the hospital, A nice and cool place with doctors and nurses walking about to treat their patients. They walk down a hallway and meet a doctor who is taking care of Asuka. The doctor is from eastern Europe and just got here recently, so his Japanese isn't too fluent.

Misato: Where's her condition?

The doctor shakes his head

Doctor: She hasn't changed... she still won't talk at all... no matter how hard we try to communicate with her.

Doctor: It's as if she's in a world of her own.

The doctor, Misato and Shinji both turns their heads and peer into the room through the glass that separates them from Asuka.

Doctor: She is asleep now... she actually ate what we brought her today.... she never ate anything from when she got here until now.

Misato: Well at least she did eat something. I was starting to get worried.

Misato and the doctor continue to talk while Shinji continues to stare at the sleeping Asuka. He feels remorse and continues to stare at her.

Shinji: (deep in thought) Asuka... I wish I knew what was going through your mind right now.

Asuka turns over to face the window but is still asleep, Shinji was expecting her to wake up, but instead still finds her still asleep.

Shinji: You were extremely proud person before, but now your barely clinging onto life.

Shinji feels a tear in his eye but wipes it quickly away as for not Misato or the doctor to notice.

Shinji: If only I could help in some way...

Misato finishes talking with the doctor and turns to Shinji.

Misato: We might as well get going.

Misato: Doctor Spielman will contact if anything new happens.

Shinji nods and Shinji takes one last look over at Asuka and pity flows throughout Shinji's body as he looks at Asuka before leaving.

Shinji: Get well soon Asuka.

Misato and Shinji both head over to NERV headquarters and when they exit the elevator, Commander Fuyutski is waiting for them.

Fuyutski: Major Katsuragi, Commander Ikari wishes to see you.

{Misato nods}

Misato: Yes sir.

Misato and commander Fuyutski both head in the direction of Gendo Ikari's office. Shinji approaches a window and sees Unit 01 still undergoing repairs to its chest area. And so is Unit 02. Shinji just stares at the evangelion with disgust.

Shinji: (pondering) If all the angels are defeated, why am I still here...

Meanwhile back in Gendo's office. Misato Katsuragi comes face to face with Gendo Ikari as Kouzou Fuyutski simply stands behind Misato without saying a word.

Gendo: Major Katsuragi....

Misato: Yes sir?

Gendo: Today the 6th child will be arriving....

Gendo: She will stay here until we find a suitable place of residence for her.

Misato is surprised because she never received any news of a 6th child.

Misato: A 6th child!?!

Gendo: That is correct...

Gendo: you are dismissed Major Katsuragi... that is all.

Misato: Yes sir.

Misato leaves Gendo's office and is stunned and confused as to why they are bringing a 6th child.

Misato: (puzzled) A 6th!

Misato: I better not tell Shinji about this... at least not yet anyways.

Misato: What is it?

Misato just stands in the hallway just outside Gendo Ikari's office still in bewilderment at why they are bring in a 6th child. She still cannot comprehend what just transpired; still confused she heads towards NERV's command center to find an explanation for this.

Meanwhile high atop NERV headquarters in the new section that was built which is above ground, Shinji is outside on a balcony leaning on the railing, just staring at the landscape with a sense of guilt in his heart.

Shinji: Why didn't my father let me help Asuka when the 15th angel attacked her?

Shinji: Why?

Shinji feels rage and hatred towards his father.

Shinji: Why didn't you let me help Asuka !!!

Shinji: She needed me!

Shinji: slams his fist on the steel rail balcony not even feeling the pain.

Shinji: I hate you father!

{Rapid flashback of Asuka Franticly screaming inside her EVA during Arael's mind attack, making her relive her past memories.}

Asuka: PLEASE STOP!

Asuka: DON'T COME INTO ME!

Misato: (Yelling) Asuka retreat!

Asuka: NO!

Misato: That was an order, I’m ordering you to retreat!

Asuka: NO! NEVER!

Asuka: I'd rather die than to be defeat now!

Misato: (desperately) ASUKA!

At the end when Asuka is alone watching her EVA go back into the ground, back to NERV.

Asuka: (Yelling) I hate you Shinji!

Asuka: I hate EVERYTHING!

Shinji does not notice Misato who is approaching behind him slowly with caution.

Misato: Shinji?

Shinji is still dealing with the anger, but finally manages to calm down and reply calmly.

Shinji: Yes?

Misato: There will be... a 6th child coming soon.

Shinji: A 6th?

Shinji is stunned because he, like Misato at first. Was surprised that there is a 6th child joining them.

Shinji: There is a 6th child joining us?!?!

Misato: I havn't been told myself either until now...

Misato: Maybe it just for precautionary reasons.

Shinji:(doubtful) Maybe.

Misato and Shinji has a brief moment of silence and finally Misato speaks.

Misato: Look i'll be leaving soon, but you can stay here for a while if thats ok with you.

Shinji doesn't reply at first but finally does after a minute.

Shinji: Ok...

Misato starts to walk away in the direction she came from and has something to tell Shinji.

Misato: Shinji!

Shinji: Yeah?

Misato: Supper will be ready at 8 so don't be late!

Shinji: Ok I won't.

Misato turns back around and continues to go down the stairs and back into NERV. Shinji is left to wonder who is the 6th child and why he or she is joining NERV even though all the angels have been defeated.

Shinji: (in a low confused voice) Why another kid like me ?

Shinji turns around but doesn't notice a shadow approaching from his left. The shadow slowly moves behind him and stops a few feet behind Shinji. It says nothing for a few seconds but finally speaks.

Unknown: (In a soft and gentle voice) Shinji?

Unknown: Shinji Ikari?

Shinji is surprised and turns his head to see who is talking to him.

Kara: My name is Kara...

Kara: Kara Williamson...

Kara:(with a serene smile on her face) Pleased to meet you.

Shinji looks at Kara who is in a long pink dress, lovely green eyes, long brown hair which is tied up in a pony tail and is stunned at how lovely she looks.

Shinji: (Stuttering) Uh... Hi... miss... Williams-

Kara: (smiling) Please.... Call me Kara.

Kara just smiles at Shinji who is still in shock.

Shinji:(blushing) Ok... Kara.

Kara: See? Thats much better isn't it.

Kara smiles at Shinji. Shinji is at a loss for words and stares into her deep green eyes.

Shinji:(nervously) Yeah.

Shinji: Your the 6th child right?

Kara: Yes.

Shinji: Well I’ll be honest.

Shinji: How did you get chosen to be an EVA pilot?

Kara blushes and takes some time to think about what to say.

Kara: Well...

Kara: I was just told by my grandma that I was one... I didn't know what to think at the time.

Kara: and I didn't know what an EVA was until I saw it for this first time.

Kara: I've been training for a week back in the United States before coming here.

Shinji: I see

Shinji: What about your parents?

Kara takes a great deal of time to answer before having the courage to because of the sudden sadness that engulfs her.

Kara: They....

Kara: Were killed in a car accident when I was about 6 years old... my grandma said that

Kara: I have been living with her ever since then...

Shinji: ...I’m sorry to hear that...

Kara just simply looks up at the bright sky with a look of sadness on her face.

Kara: It's ok...

Shinji realizes he that he said something that upset her.

Shinji: I'm... I'm sorry if I upset you

Kara: No really, it's ok.

Kara: When I was back in the U.S. I'd visit their grave everyday.

Kara: Every spring my grandma and me used to plant pretty flowers at their grave.

Kara takes a quick look at her watch and realises that she is late.

Kara: Well I have to go now...

Kara: Sorry I have to leave so soon.

Kara: ... but maybe we can get to know each other better another time?

Shinji doesn't know what to say at the time, He's surprised that some actually wants to spend time with him to get to know him better.

Shinji:(with a faint smile) Sure.

Kara: All right, I already know your phone number already since I got it in the report I recieved after arriving here.

Kara: So I'll call you.

Kara: Ok?

Shinji: Sure.

Kara:(in a soft voice while waving) Bye.

Shinji: Bye...

As Kara leaves, he looks at the garden below and notices the nice flowers and trees. A gentle breeze flows by him, and he looks up at the sky.... and just stares at the clouds passing by.

Meanwhile back at Misato's apartment. Misato is trying her best to cook a decent meal in the kitchen. She then takes spoon and tries the soup she is currently cooking.

Misato: (Slurp) hmmm

Misato: takes a few seconds to figure out what she might need to add more of.

Misato: Hmm needs some more salt.

Misato reaches to her right and trying to feel for a shaker... but doesn't feel anything. Misato looks to her right and sees on the peppershaker and not the salt.

Misato: Hmm now where did the saltshaker go?

Misato looks at the table first then looks around at the counters. Then looks at her hand and to her amazement she's already holding on to the saltshaker.

Misato: (embarrassed) Misato you idiot...

Misato sighs and shakes it twice and stirs the hot soup around.

Misato:(calling) Pen Pen!

Pen Pen is sitting in front of the TV and is watching a game show and then turns to face Misato.

Misato: Come here, I want you to try this (while lowering a ladle into Pen Pen's food dish)

Pen Pen then slowly makes his way into the kitchen and as always nervously eyes his food dish...

Pen Pen : ....Kwarrrk....

Misato: Oh come on!

Misato:(smiling) Try it, I’m sure you will like it

Pen Pen then slowly lowers his beak and starts to eat the soup and noodles. Pen Pen finishes it and looks up at Misato and just walks away back to the TV.

Misato: Well I guess it is good then since he didn't go ballistic...

Misato takes out 2 bowls and 2 small plates. She starts to pour the soup into the 1st bowl when the door opens and Shinji enters the kitchen.

Misato:(surprised) Oh, I didn't hear you come in.

Shinji just sits down at the table and Misato tries to start up a conversation.

Misato: So what did you do today after I left?

Shinji: Oh nothing much really.

Shinji: After you left I met the new pilot.

Misato: Oh!

Misato: What's her name?

Shinji: Kara Williamson.

Misato: So how is she like?

Shinji: She was very nice to be honest.

Shinji: She even said she would call me later so we can talk more about each other.

Misato: oooo Shinji:

Misato:(smiling) I think she might like you.

Shinji doesn't reply and Misato feels sort of stupid saying what she said and turns around to finish pouring the soup into the bowls.

Misato:I guess I shouldn't have said that.

Misato turns around and starts walking over to the table and hands the soup bowl over to Shinji. Shinji takes the bowl and places it in front of him.

Shinji: What this?

Misato: It's chicken soup.

Shinji: Oh.

Misato turns around with 2 plates in her hands and each plate has a small roll of bread in top of it.

Misato: Sorry.

Misato: I didn't feel like making much tonight.

Shinji: It's ok, I'm not very hungry

(Misato and Shinji both start with the soup and after a few minutes later Shinji finishes his soup and bread.)

Shinji: Misato.

(Misato stops for a second and looks at Shinji.)

Misato: Yes?

Shinji: This soup is really good

Misato: Oh thank you.

(Shinji then stands up and brings his plate and bowl over to the sink and then turns to head off to his room.)

Shinji: I’m really tired and I'm going to bed.

Misato: It's only 8:30

Shinji: Yeah I know, but I'm really tired

Misato: Oh ok.

(Shinji then heads to his room while Misato brings her plate and bowl and puts them in the sink.)

Misato: I don't feel like doing the dishes tonight.

Misato: I'll do them tomorrow.

Misato opens the fridge and pulls out a cold beer can and slowly makes her way to the living room and plops down on the floor on a blanket. She sits beside Pen Pen who is still watching the television. Misato opens the beer can and takes a sip and then puts it down on the table beside her.

Misato: I hope Shinji is ok.

Misato: He's had a long day, first see Asuka in the hospital and seeing and hearing her condition.

Misato: Then meeting the 6th child....

Misato: I hope he's ok with all the things that happened recently...

Misato reaches for her beer and takes another sip and continues to stare at the television.

Misato: but why a 6th?

Misato: Is there something i'm missing?

Misato is left to ponder what NERV is up to and Shinji just lies in his bed wondering about Kara...

Shinji: Who is she?

Shinji: Why did they bring her in?

Kara: My name is Kara...

Shinji: (Stuttering) Uh... Hi... miss... William-

Kara: (smiling) Please.... Call me Kara.

Shinji:(blushing) Ok... Kara

Kara: See? That’s much better isn't it?

Shinji presses the play button on his tape player and slowly falls off to sleep wonder who this strange new girl is and what’s her purpose.
